A 22-year-old inmate who died after being stabbed at a prison near Doncaster has been named as Michael Hennessy from Nottingham.

South Yorkshire Police were contacted by prison officials following his death at HMP Lindholme on Saturday afternoon.

Two prisoners, one aged 23 and another aged 26, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The men have been released on bail and returned to the prison service while investigations continue, said police.

HMP Lindholme is classified as a Category C and D prison with a capacity of more than 1,100.

The former RAF base opened as a prison in 1985 and houses men over the age of 21, including inmates serving life and indeterminate sentences.

An inspection in the summer was highly critical of the jail's wing for low-risk prisoners, which has since been closed.
