Funeral held for Wath-upon-Dearne mother and daughter

The funeral of a mother and daughter whose bodies were discovered at a house in Wath-upon-Dearne has taken place.

Jean, 67, and Sarah Redfern, 33, were found dead at a property in Sandygate, on 22 July.

Ahead of the service Jean's brother and sister-in-law described both as "loving, caring and generous people".

Jean's husband Peter Redfern, 70, has been charged with murdering the women. He is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on 22 October.

Paying tribute to the mother and daughter, Jean's brother said: "Our family are deeply affected by the sudden deaths of Jean and Sarah.

"They were private and well respected members of the community as well as loving, caring and generous people."

Jean's sister-in-law added: "Both Jean and Sarah were extremely thoughtful and shared a love of shopping and holidays in Whitby."

"They were both so welcoming and will be sadly missed by the whole family."

Post-mortem examinations revealed Mrs Redfern died from asphyxiation and Sarah suffered fatal head injuries, South Yorkshire Police. said in July.
