Nick Clegg headlines Radio 5 live Sheffield Octoberfest

Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg will be questioned by a live radio audience in Sheffield during a three-day festival in the city in October.

BBC Radio 5 live will be heading to Sheffield from 11 to 13 October for Octoberfest 2012 - a free festival, featuring a programme of live broadcasts and events across the city.

Mr Clegg will take part in a special one-off show hosted by Shelagh Fogarty at the Crucible Theatre from 12:00 BST on Friday 12 October.

The leader of the Liberal Democrats and MP for Sheffield Hallam will face questions from 5 live listeners about the coalition government.

The Crucible will also host Richard Bacon's show on Thursday 11 October, Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo's Film Review on Friday 12 October and Colin Murray's Fighting Talk on Saturday 13 October.

Record attempt

In partnership with BBC Radio Sheffield and other parts of the BBC including CBeebies, CBBC, Radio 3 and 6 Music, 5 live will present a mix of news and sport programming, audience debates and interactive activities in venues across the city, including Tudor Square and the Crucible and Lyceum Theatres.

Some of the station's biggest names and some special guests will be on hand to lead the discussions and to get involved with the action.

Confirmed contributors include Nicky Campbell, Shelagh Fogarty, Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode, Stephen Nolan, Robbie Savage, Colin Murray, Al Murray and Nick Hancock.

Tickets for these events are free and available at the BBC Shows and Tours website.

As part of the festival, BBC Radio 5 live and BBC Radio Sheffield will attempt to break the Guinness World Records title for the "most players to play in a continuous 5-a-side football exhibition match", while raising money for BBC Children In Need.

The 5-live-a-side challenge will take place from 14:00 BST on Friday 12 October to 14:00 BST on Saturday 13 October at Sheffield United's Shirecliffe Road indoor pitches.

If you'd like to take part all you have to do is sign up at the 5 live website and select your preferred time-slot.

Registration opened on Friday 21 September and places are limited. It is free to register your interest, but players are encouraged to make a donation to BBC Children In Need.

5 live presenters Colin Murray, for Fighting Talk, and Robbie Savage, for 606, will be on hand on Saturday afternoon to play in the final stint of the record attempt, before celebrating the ambitious task with a special one-off match between hand-picked Fighting Talk and 606 squads.
