Plans for rise in child bus fares in South Yorkshire
Bus fares for children in South Yorkshire could be increased for the first time in eight years.
Councillors at South Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority are being asked to approve the rise from 40p to 50p from April.
The county's passenger transport executive said child fares would still be the lowest outside of London.
David Brown, its director general, said the increase was a result of the "wider financial climate."
A recommendation is also being made that a further 10p rise should come into effect in April 2010 and April 2013.
Mr Brown added: "If child bus fares had gone up with inflation in those eight years they would already be 60p, rather than the 40p they have been held at."
The decision will be made at a meeting on 3 February.
