Three new routes are being opened across the city which will be covered by the 15 new buses, operators Stagecoach Yorkshire has said.
The company said the new buses would also lead to 80 new jobs.
The new routes are between Ecclesfield and Batemoor; High Green and Lowedges and Malin Bridge and Stannington.
The new buses will be 80-seater vehicles fitted with engines that conform to the latest emission standards, the company said.
