Delay warning over Sheffield bridge works

Motorists have been warned they face delays as repairs start on a bridge over one of Sheffield's busiest roads.

The work on Handsworth Bridge, on the Sheffield Parkway, involves concrete repairs and bearing replacements and will take about 16 weeks to complete.

The city council said the work was "essential" to keep the bridge in a good state of repair.

It said it had been timed to take place over the summer to cause the "minimum inconvenience" to motorists.

Lane closures and "occasional" full overnight road closures would be necessary, the council said.
