Plans by Taunton Deane Borough Council to move its headquarters have been delayed due to costs constraints and a rethink on delivering its services.

The council wanted to move to create a joint public sector "hub" with Somerset County Council.

Leader of the authority John Williams said: "It became obvious that both authorities were challenged financially".

Officers will explore their options during the three-month pause period.

The council had planned the move as the current building was deemed to be too big and needed a substantial revamp with new electrics, heating and doors.

Mr Williams said: "A lot of councils in the land are going totally digital and therefore the ease of contact with the council is online through the website and that is the sort of thing we have to evaluate during this period."
