A teenage boy has been arrested over the online posting of "inappropriate images" linked to a Wiltshire school.

A spokesman for Dauntsey's School, in Devizes, confirmed there had been "a serious breach of the school's rules on social media use".

Wiltshire Police said a 17-year-old had been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The independent boarding and day school for 11-18 year olds is one of Wiltshire's leading public schools.

"We take the matter very seriously and, having quickly informed the authorities, we continue to work closely with them during their investigation," the school spokesman added.

Samantha Smith, chair of Dauntsey's School Parents' Association, told BBC Wiltshire that parents had been made aware of the developments and that she was happy with the way the school had responded.
