Police investigating the death of an elderly man in a hit-and-run in Somerset have rearrested two people.

David Hick, 84, was found with head injuries in Cole Road, Bruton, at about 20:35 BST on 14 October, and later died.

A 46-year-old man and 31-year-old woman have since been been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Mr Hick, a retired engineer, was walking to a shop with his two dogs when he was struck by the car.

Avon and Somerset Police have also appealed for the driver of a dark coloured new-style VW Golf, seen driving along Cole Road minutes before the collision, to come forward.

A spokesman said the vehicle was travelling from the direction of Sexey's School towards the town centre.

"We believe the driver could have useful information to help our investigation," he added.
