A "manipulative and devious" man has been jailed for a series of sexual offences against two young girls.

Nigel Bargery, of Langdon Close, Chard, was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison at Taunton Crown Court.

The 54-year-old pleaded guilty to 16 charges. He was also found to have more than 2,500 indecent images of children.

Avon and Somerset Police said the offences were committed against two girls between October 2011 and August 2013 in Taunton and Bridgwater.

Det Con Darren Lipscomb said: "Nigel Bargery is a manipulative and devious offender.

"He abused these two girls over a lengthy spell of time and manipulated situations to make sure he had time alone with them."

Police seized a number of computers at his home which contained the indecent images, some at the "highest level of seriousness".

Det Con Lipscombe praised the victims for showing "tremendous strength".
