An appeal has begun to raise £750,000 to set up a permanent centre to enable carers in Bath to get respite.

Bath and North East Somerset Carers' Centre rents a site on the Lower Bristol Road in the city but wants to buy the building outright.

Chief executive Sonia Hutchinson, said: "It'll be somewhere they can really spend some time away from their caring role."

The centre supports 3,500 people and aims to help more after the revamp.

Part of the redevelopment also includes developing the outdoor space so its young carers, some of whom are as young as five years old, can play safely.

The aim is to raise the money within two years so the charity can buy the building before the lease runs out.
