North Somerset Council accused of secrecy over contract

A council has been accused of being "secretive" about a review of a £100m out-sourcing contract.

Unison said North Somerset Council delayed providing details of a report about the 10-year deal it awarded to Agilisys in 2010 for IT and admin work.

The union made a Freedom of Information request for a report which the council redacted when it was released.

Following an appeal, the council has been ordered to release the full report by the Information Commissioner.

Unison's Helen Thornton said the council had been "unwilling to tell the whole truth" about the report.

In a statement, the council said it had not kept the report secret and said it provided Unison with a copy when it requested one.

It said the un-redacted report contained "inaccuracies and misinterpretations" which is why it was 24 pages long, instead of 17.

The union claims the council suppressed parts of the full report relating to the quality of some services, because it could harm the commercial interests of Agilisys if published.
