A major project to repair the Yanley viaduct in North Somerset has been given £2m of government funding.

Deterioration of the 12-span viaduct, which carries the A370 at Long Ashton, means maintenance work is essential.

North Somerset Council will add £1.4m to the Department for Transport funding and says the work will disrupt traffic.

Councillor Elfan Ap Rees, said: "This is a major scheme and we will need to close two of the three traffic lanes for an estimated six months."

He added: "There is no doubt that the work will cause disruption and we are currently looking at all the options on how we can keep that disruption to a minimum."
