Shepton Mallet car park complaints lead to barrier

A Somerset car park which has "caused misery" to residents is being shut at night under new security measures.

A number of complaints have been made about groups in cars gathering late at night and creating noise at Commercial Road car park in Shepton Mallet.

In response, an entrance barrier is being installed to close the car park from 22:00 until the following morning.

Cars already parked when the barrier is locked will be able to exit over a set of raised one-way spikes.

Councillor Nigel Taylor, from Mendip District Council, said: "By installing these new security measures at Commercial Road car park we hope that we can deal with the on-going issues of anti-social behaviour that have caused misery for some local residents."
