Chard homes and football pitch plan rejected

A controversial plan to build 350 new homes on farmland in a Somerset town has been refused by South Somerset District Council.

The proposal involved homes and a new football pitch for Chard Football Club at Mount Hindrance Farm in Chard.

More than 600 people wrote to the council in protest while 100 were in support. A petition of 1,200 signatures opposing the development was also made.

Councillors voted unanimously against the scheme on Wednesday evening.
