Plan for 580 homes in Priorswood, Taunton, approved

Plans for a controversial housing estate in Somerset have been approved by Taunton Deane Borough Council.

More than 600 people objected to the scheme to build 580 homes on Crown Estate land near Taunton.

Nick Harper, from the Crown Estate, said: "Of those 580 homes, 145 are going to be affordable for people who need them."

The plans also include shops, a primary school, play areas and planting 15,000 trees.
