Campaigners protesting against plans to build new houses in a Somerset village have staged a demonstration.

About 60 people attended the protest in Clutton. They say the plans will increase traffic and threaten the safety of children walking to school.

Somer Community Housing Trust wants to build 43 homes next to Maynard Terrace.

A company spokesman said it understood residents' road safety concerns and was taking traffic issues very seriously.

Mike Grist, from Somer Housing Group, said: "We recognise that local people do have concerns about the new development."

One of the campaigners, Emily Barter, said: "This was a fantastic turnout. The large number of parents and children taking part shows the level of concern there is about these plans."

The plans are due to be discussed by Bath and North East Somerset Council next month.
