Plans for new horse riding centre in Somerset

Plans for a new horse riding centre have been submitted to Mendip District Council.

The equestrian centre would include a 40-hectare cross country course with two show jumping arenas at Chewton Field Farm, in Ston Easton.

Some people living nearby have expressed concern about the amount of traffic the centre would create.

Applicant Duncan Green said they were working to address their neighbours' concerns.

Mr Green said: "We haven't got anything like we're proposing in this area. We've been working on this now for quite a few years and getting information, talking to people and listening.

"We've taken advice from highways and they've recommended that we come off the A39, just a short 100 yards distance off the main road and come straight in onto the fields so we can limit any disruption on the roads."
