Cheddar man charged with murder is remanded in custody

A man from Somerset accused of murdering an amateur footballer on New Year's Day has been remanded in custody.

Samuel Binning, 20, of Felsberg Way, Cheddar, entered no plea when he appeared at Bristol Crown Court earlier.

James Hewlett, 24, died from serious head injuries after an alleged assault outside a takeaway in Cheddar.

Mr Hewlett was described as a loving and fun son, brother and friend.
