Warning over unregistered taxis in Somerset

People are being warned not to use unregistered taxis following reports that they are operating in parts of Somerset.

Police believe a number of the vehicles, including minibuses, have been carrying passengers in Shepton Mallet and the surrounding area.

A force spokesman said the vehicles might be unroadworthy, uninsured and untaxed.

Passengers are also vulnerable to theft and assault, the spokesman added.

The force has urged people to arrange taxis in advance with firms listed in the telephone directory and to check the driver knows the name of the booking when the taxi arrives.
