Arrest after suspected gun threat in Wells

A man has been arrested after a suspected firearms incident in the centre of Wells in Somerset.

Reports that a man had been threatened by another man with what appeared to be a gun were received by police shortly after 1300 BST.

A number of roads around a first floor flat in High Street were sealed off while police, some of them armed, went to the scene.

Negotiators made contact with the man who was brought out at about 1630 BST.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "The incident ended peacefully when the man was brought out and arrested. He is now in custody and being questioned.

"All cordons were lifted and the centre of Wells has returned to normal."
