Block of flats evacuated after two fires in Taunton

A block of flats in Somerset was evacuated due to an apparent arson attack.

A fire started in a shed at the back of the building on Dorchester Road, Taunton, at about 1725 BST on Monday, causing damage to the flats.

Another fire started in the internal stair well at about the same time, which was extinguished by a resident.

A police spokesman said both fires were thought to have been started deliberately.

No-one was injured.

The occupants of six flats had to go into emergency accommodation, the spokesman added.

He said a man and three teenage boys had been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and were in police custody.

The force is appealing for witnesses.
