Hayes Lane Bridge shut for repairs

A bridge near the River Severn in Shropshire is to be closed to traffic until Christmas Eve.

Repairs are needed to the damaged downstream and upstream ends of Hayes Lane Bridge near Alberbury, the council said.

The bridge, which crosses a tributary of the river off the B4393, will shut to traffic between 08:00 and 16:00 GMT. Pedestrians will be able to use it.

Drivers are being warned the closure will cause some inconvenience.

Claire Wild, from the council, said: ''This is essential work which needs to be carried out.

''It is appreciated that the bridge closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible."
