New Telford nature reserve replaces landfill site

A new nature reserve is to be created on a former landfill site in Telford.

Work on the Paddocks Nature Reserve, mainly by volunteers, will begin after Shropshire Wildlife Trust was awarded a grant of almost £40,000.

The Veolia Environmental Trust, which awarded the grant, has also given Berrington Village Hall, near Shrewsbury, about £18,000 to upgrade its 75-year-old toilet facilities.

Shropshire Wildlife Trust said the reserve would be a "green haven".

The group said it wanted to increase the numbers of amphibian, mammal and bird species found at the site in Smalley Hill, New Works.
