Boy arrested for Shrewsbury sex attack on girl, 10

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested by police hunting a teenager who carried out a serious sexual attack on a 10-year-old girl in Shrewsbury.

The victim was lured to a disused area near the Arc car wash on St Michael's Street at 15:30 BST on Friday.

Police said a boy had asked for her help to find something he had lost.

A 14-year-old, arrested in Shrewsbury on Wednesday evening, is now being questioned by specially trained officers.

Det Ch Insp Neil Jamieson, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is clearly a significant development in our inquiry, however investigations continue into the case.

"I have previously stressed how important it is for people to speak to us if they have any information about the offence and that appeal has not changed, despite this development."

On Wednesday, West Mercia Police said officers had extended their search and were following up several important lines of inquiry after a number of calls from the public.
