Body found next to A529 'struck by passing vehicle'

A man whose body was found by the side of a Shropshire road may have been "struck by a passing vehicle", police have said.

The man, believed to be aged 19, was found near the A529 between Adderley and Market Drayton at 08:30 GMT.

West Mercia Police's Ch Insp Paul Moxley said it appeared he had been "walking home in the dark when struck".

He said a post-mortem examination would take place to establish the "exact circumstances" of the man's death.

A police spokesman said it was thought the man was making his way home to Market Drayton along the the road at around 16:45 GMT on Thursday.

Mr Moxley said officers were "anxious to trace the driver or any passengers in the vehicle involved".

"It's possible they may not even be aware of what happened although this is unlikely."
