Ludlow 'ring-and-ride' bus service to be launched

A new ring-and-ride community bus service is being launched in a Shropshire town.

The Ludlow Traveller scheme will start in October, with a 14-seat minibus and a wheelchair-accessible people carrier with volunteer drivers.

Shropshire council said users would have to pay a £12 annual subscription and a small fee for each journey.

Last month, it announced the closure of the Shropshire Link rural bus service because of low passenger numbers.

Councillor Rosanna Taylor-Smith said the Ludlow service was not designed to fill the gap left by the Shropshire Link.

"Ludlow historically hasn't had any community transport whereas other places in Shropshire have had them for years," she said.

The buses are funded through a £5m sustainable transport grant the government gave the council in 2011, she said.
