A woman has died in a house fire in north Shropshire.

Firefighters were called to Maer Lane in Market Drayton at about 07:45 GMT, after a refuse collector saw smoke coming out of the house.

Ambulance crews attended the incident and the woman, thought to be in her early 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said nobody else was in the home at the time and the fire was not being treated as suspicious.

Fire crews from Market Drayton, Hodnet and Prees tackled the blaze.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said a case was being prepared for the north Shropshire coroner John Ellery.
