5,600 Shropshire homes lose water after pump failure

Thousands of homes in Shropshire lost their water supply on Sunday after a pump failed at a bore hole.

Severn Trent Water said about 5,600 properties in Whitchurch and Market Drayton were affected when the equipment stopped working at 15:30 GMT.

A spokeswoman for Severn Trent said a reservoir served by the bore hole then "drained down".

The pump was repaired on Sunday night and water supplies were restored by about 02:00 GMT.

The company has apologised to customers affected.
