Man arrested in £100,000 Pennill's scrapyard metal seizure

A man has been arrested and about £100,000 of suspected stolen metal seized in Shropshire.

Police searched Pennill's scrapyard near Market Drayton in an operation with BT, SmartWater, the Environment Agency and Shropshire Council.

Items found included large amounts of copper cabling, road signs and drain covers, police said.

The man was held on suspicion of money laundering and possession of items they could reasonably suspect was stolen.

He has been released on police bail pending further inquiries, the spokesman added.

Update July 2016: On 2 September 2011 the man's bail was cancelled and no further action was taken in relation to this matter.
