Van driver reversed over cyclist by school in Shrewsbury

A delivery van driver reversed over a cyclist outside a school in Shrewsbury.

Although he stopped at the scene, the driver failed to report the incident to police and officers in Shropshire are currently trying to trace him.

The collision happened near Sundorne School, in Corndon Crescent, at about 1615 GMT on Monday.

The cyclist, a woman in her late teens, was travelling along the road when she was knocked off her bike by a white Vauxhall Vivaro.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said the driver, apparently unaware of the collision, was then reported to have continued reversing over the woman, who was forced to bang on the vehicle to get it to stop.

Pc Jason Tierney said: "Fortunately, she managed to avoid the wheels of the van as she fell and only suffered minor injuries."

He added the driver is described as white and between the ages of 30 and 40 years old.
