Lorry driver arrested over fatal Higher Heath crash

A lorry driver has been arrested after a fatal crash in north Shropshire.

The crash, involving the articulated lorry and two cars, happened on the A41 at Higher Heath, near Whitchurch, at about 0745 GMT on Tuesday.

One of the car drivers died after suffering serious multiple injuries, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

The 47-year-old lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was bailed by police as inquiries continue.

The man who died had been travelling alone in a blue Ford Focus estate. He is believed to be aged in his 50s and from Staffordshire.

He was thought to have been heading towards Whitchurch in the opposite direction to the lorry, police said.

A West Mercia Police spokesman urged any witnesses to contact officers at Shrewsbury police station.

"There was a considerable amount of traffic on this busy stretch of road at the time," he added.
