Man arrested over 'toddler balcony fall' in Telford

A man has been arrested and bailed on suspicion of neglect after a toddler apparently fell two storeys from a balcony in Telford, Shropshire.

A neighbour reported he had found a girl on the grass below some flats in Glebelands, Donnington, at about midnight on 15 November.

Leigh Greive said he tried to fetch her parents but got no response when he knocked on their front door.

The girl was not badly hurt, but anyone with information should call police.

When Mr Greive tried to return the girl, who is thought to be about two-and-a-half to three years old, he noticed the door to the second-floor balcony was open.

'Nobody answered'

Mr Greive said: "It was about midnight. I just heard a girl crying upstairs at first, then about two minutes later I heard her crying outside.

"I came out to have a look and realised it was the top balcony that was open and that was where she had fallen from.

"I opened the door, she just walked in and sat on the stairs. I went upstairs to try to get her parents up but nobody was answering.

"She's lucky to be alive because if that had been concrete she wouldn't have been here now," he added.

Mr Greive then called the ambulance and West Mercia Police.
