Shropshire Fire service targets Telford bin arsonists

Shropshire firefighters will patrol the streets of a Telford housing estate following a spate of small fires.

They attended four incidents in three nights in Brookside where bins and a fly-tipped sofa were set alight.

Firefighters at Tweedale fire station, including some on bikes, will now tour the area identifying potential sites for further fires.

They will also launch an education campaign with youngsters.

Watch manager Chris Wright of Tweedale fire station said the incidents could be a copycat of similar fires in the Sutton Hill area of Telford.

Five fires were started involving camper vans and cars last weekend.

"There are certain areas of Shropshire where anti-social behaviour lends itself to nuisance fires," he said.

"It's gone very quiet recently, the number of fires has been reduced but for some unknown reason they have started again."
