Child rapist jailed for 12 years

A man who raped a 15-year-old girl and committed a string of other sex offences has been jailed for 12 years.

Paul Wells, 46 from High Street in Beckley, Oxfordshire, carried out his crimes in the county from 2011 to 2013.

As well as rape, his seven-day trial at Oxford Crown Court heard Wells committed eight counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts of making indecent photographs of a child.

Det Con Kelly Gilbert said she was pleased Wells was "where he belongs".

His was sentenced to 12 years for rape, and his sentences for the 10 remaining offences will run concurrently.

Det Con Gilbert said the girls in the case could now "try to move forward with their lives".

She added: "I would also like to thank the victims for being so courageous in coming forward and also thank the Crown Prosecution Service for all their hard work in bringing this case to trial and a successful prosecution."
