Family escape Kidlington house arson blaze

A family escaped through the windows of their burning home after a suspected arson attack.

A five-year-old boy and two adults were in the house in Bassett Way, in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, when the fire broke out at about 01:50 GMT.

Police said the fire was started on purpose by someone at the front door and it then spread through the house.

The man aged 50, a woman aged 36 and the boy escaped the house from the bedroom windows.

The man and the boy were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene by paramedics.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation. She has since been discharged.

A spokesman for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said the family "were lucky to escape".

Thames Valley Police said a joint investigation was under way with Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
