Man charged with 1986 Oxford attempted rape
A man has been charged with the attempted rape of a girl 30 years ago.
Thames Valley Police arrested Philip Spriggs, 52, formerly of Oxford, following a reinvestigation by its major crime review team.
The attack on the teenager took place near Pullens Lane, Oxford, in January 1986.
Mr Spriggs appeared at Oxford Magistrates' Court earlier, with a trial expected at Oxford Crown Court on 2 December.
Police said the girl was approached by a man from behind, pulled to the ground, and threatened with violence.
The attacker attempted to rape her but fled the scene.
"Despite a thorough investigation at the time of the offence, no previous arrests were made," a spokesman said.
