A man has been stabbed in the stomach and shoulders in an attack in Oxfordshire.

The 29-year-old was found when paramedics were called to a property in Centre Street, Banbury, late on Saturday.

He remains at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where his condition is described as "stable".

Police said they did not believe it was a random attack and are appealing for information.

Det Sgt Mike West of Thames Valley Police said: "We are very keen to speak to anyone who was in Centre Street... and may have seen or heard a fight or an argument going on in one of the houses.

"A man is in hospital having been stabbed and someone may have information which could prove vital to our investigation into the circumstances which led up to this attack.

"We believe that the victim was known to his attacker."
