Man charged with raping child in Oxford

A man has been charged with the rape and exploitation of a child in Oxford.

Azad Miah, 37, of Riverside Court, is accused of rape, conspiracy to rape, trafficking and prostituting a child under the age of 18.

He is due before Oxford Crown Court on 22 April.

Mr Miah is alleged to have carried out the offences between November 2005 and March 2007. The charges are a result of Operation Spur - an investigation into historic child exploitation in Oxford.

A second man, Salik Miah, 24, of Ferry Hinksey Road, has also been charged in connection with the same investigation and is due to go on trial on 20 June.

He is charged with rape, conspiracy to rape, arranging or facilitating the sexual exploitation of a child aged 13 to 17 and arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploitation.

The offences are alleged to have happened between January 2005 and March 2007.
