A man who beat his pregnant girlfriend with a metal pole and attacked her with a knife has been jailed for 12 years.

Amjad Mohammed, 35, assaulted his partner who was 22 weeks pregnant, in August.

Police said he repeatedly hit her with a metal bar, punched her in the head and also cut her hands with a bread knife.

Mohammed, of Nursery Close, Oxford was found guilty of GBH following a trial at Oxford Crown Court.

Det Sgt Adrian Thomas, from Thames Valley Police, said the sentence "reflects the horrific nature of the abuse the victim suffered".
