About 26,000 chickens have been evacuated because of a barn fire in Oxfordshire.

Fire fighters have been tackling the blaze at Rickfield Farm in Milcombe since about 11:30 BST on Tuesday.

A 200m (656ft) cordon has been placed around the single-storey 100m (328ft) by 30m (98ft) building as it contains several gas cylinders.

The farmer moved his brood from an adjacent barn to a safe place in case they were caught in an explosion.

Fire crews from Banbury, Hook Norton, Chipping Norton, Charlbury, Wheatley, Kidlington, Eynsham and Deddington took part in the operation.

The main road between Station Road and Wigginton Heath was closed as Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service fought the blaze.
