Dorset heath arson attacks probed

Two blazes that broke out in heathland on the Dorset coast within two days are being treated as arson.

About 45 firefighters spent more than two hours tackling a blaze that broke out at Godlingston Heath on Monday evening.

About 350 sq m (3,767 sq ft) ft of heathland was destroyed.

Less than 24 hours earlier about 60 firefighters tackled a blaze at nearby Studland Heath affecting 300 sq m of land.

The National Trust and Natural England have been alerted as the fires broke out on sites of special scientific interest.

It is not yet known what caused the fires but they are both being treated as arson, Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said.
