The Regal nightclub and music venue in Oxford has been taken over by an evangelical church.
The first service of Christian Life Centre Church took place on Sunday and was attended by more than 400 people.
Senior pastor Grady Reid said the church had outgrown its previous building and The Regal had been the perfect location to expand to.
He added: "We are hoping it will be in the hands of the church i.e. the community for many years to come."
The new owners have a 10-year lease on the building on the Cowley Road with the option to buy the leasehold, which they plan to do as soon as possible.
Mr Reid said: "We think it will make a fantastic venue for people from all different walks of life."
