Appeal after two women attacked in Oxford

Police have appealed for information after two women were attacked in separate incidents in Oxford on Sunday.

In the first incident a man attempted to rape a woman in the ladies toilet of The Bell and Compass pub in New Road at 02:20 GMT.

Police said in the second a man attempted to rape a 29-year-old woman in an alleyway off Shelley Road.

She was being harassed by a group of men at about 02:45 GMT when the attacker came to her assistance.

He walked her to Shelley Road where he attempted to rape her in an alleyway but ran off as the woman called police.

The man was described as someone of middle eastern origin, aged about 22, and of large build. He had short hair and a closely shaven beard, spoke with a foreign accent and was wearing a tracksuit.

Police described the first attacker as aged in his late 20s, of tanned complexion with short, dark, gelled back hair.
