Cigarettes seized by customs officers in Oxfordshire

Customs officers in Oxfordshire have seized 57,000 cigarettes, 2.9 kilos of tobacco and a car.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) raided 20 premises in Witney, Banbury and Watlington on 9 and 10 March.

The raids were part of efforts to stop the storage and sale of alcohol and tobacco on which no duty has been paid.

HMRC said the tax evaded on the seized products was about £12,000. No-one was arrested during the raids but officers said inquiries were continuing.
