Police officer knocked down in Oxfordshire

A police officer was seriously injured when she was hit by a car in Oxfordshire.

The roads policing officer was knocked down as she was helping the driver of a broken down van on the A34 near Kidlington at 2000 GMT on Thursday.

A 63-year-old man from Leicestershire was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and was released on bail until 8 February.

The northbound carriageway was closed for several hours.

Investigators have inspected the scene and Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses.
