Man hit by tipper lorry in Chipping Norton dies

An elderly man died when he was hit by a lorry in an Oxfordshire town centre.

The man, in his 70s, was walking along the High Street in Chipping Norton at about 1030 GMT when he was struck by an eight-tonne tipper lorry.

He suffered multiple injuries and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, but died a short time later.

Police have urged anyone who saw the man, who was using a walking stick, being hit by the blue Scania lorry to get in touch.

Pc Neil Budd, of Thames Valley Police, said the man's next-of-kin had been informed.

He added: "At this stage there is nothing to suggest the lorry driver could have done anything differently to prevent this tragedy."
