Inquiry continues into Banbury baby death

Police in Oxfordshire are trying to establish whether injuries sustained by a baby boy who died in hospital were the result of a criminal offence.

A man and woman have been arrested and bailed over the death of the 22-month-old boy at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital on Friday 12 November.

The injured youngster was admitted to Horton General Hospital, Banbury, on Friday 5 November.

Officers say they are continuing "detailed enquiries".

Couple bailed

Det Ch Insp Joe Kidman said: "He [the boy] was taken to the Horton General Hospital in Banbury by ambulance on Friday 5 November, following a 999 call, and was subsequently transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford as he required specialist treatment.

"He was pronounced dead at the hospital on Friday.

"A man and a woman have both been interviewed twice as part of our investigation into the cause of the boy's injuries. Establishing whether or not criminal offences have been committed is part of that enquiry.

"The man and woman who have been arrested in connection with the boy's death have been bailed until January pending further inquiries."
