Burglars pose as police officers in Oxfordshire

Thieves posing as police officers have been targeting homes in Oxfordshire.

Thames Valley Police said a group of men had burgled the homes of two elderly people on Thursday evening.

Four men visited a 95-year-old man in Carterton and told him they were police officers there for a drugs search. They stole a mobile phone and cash.

An hour-and-a-half later an 82-year-old woman found three men in her Horton Cum Studley home. They also said they were police officers and stole cash.

The thieves entered the first home at about 1820 GMT after knocking on the door and telling the elderly man to sit in his chair while they carried out a search for drugs.

They also stole credit and debit cards before leaving through the front door.

In the second burglary, the woman heard someone entering her house.

The men refused to show her identification and she demanded that they leave the house. She found money had been taken from her handbag.
