More than 50 firefighters tackle Oxfordshire house fire

More than 50 firefighters have tackled a large blaze at a three-story detached house in Oxfordshire.

Fire crews were alerted to the fire at the property in West Challow, Wantage, at 1628 GMT on Thursday.

It took firefighters two hours to get the flames, which began at the rear of the house, under control. The vacant building was undergoing renovation.

A spokesman said the incident is not believed to be suspicious. Fire investigators are examining the scene.

Incident commander Kerry Blair said: "The hard work of crews from Oxfordshire and Royal Berkshire [Fire and Rescue Service] at the initial stages greatly contributed to saving the majority of the property and preventing [the fire] spreading to neighbouring properties."
